A Letter from the Executive Director
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that the Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County will be closing its doors by December 2026.
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our community and partners, our dedicated staff and Board of Directors, our volunteers, donors, care providers, and everyone who has supported our mission over the past 54 years. Your generosity, commitment, and compassion have made our work possible, and we could not have done it without you.
Over the past several years, securing funding has become increasingly difficult. Grants have become smaller and more competitive, federal support has declined, and fundraising efforts have faced growing challenges. After careful consideration, our Board made the extremely difficult decision to close the organization.
The Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County was founded in 1972 by a group of women who recognized that there were few services available to support older adults in Clackamas County. For its first decade, the organization focused on advocacy, caregiving support, and connecting seniors with essential resources. In 1982, our services expanded to include Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Money Management programs. Over the past 54 years, we have had the privilege of serving, protecting, and supporting thousands of individuals and families throughout our community.
Throughout these years, we have learned so much from the people we have served. Older adults are resourceful, accomplished, resilient, and often the cornerstones of their families. They bring wisdom, humor, and invaluable life experience to our communities. At the same time, many are vulnerable to poverty, exploitation, abuse, and neglect. The saying, "It takes a village," has never been more fitting. Older adults deserve to be seen, respected, and supported with dignity, compassion, and care.
To our current clients and their care teams, please know that our commitment to you remains unwavering. We will continue providing services throughout this transition and will work diligently to ensure each client is safely connected with a new provider before our services conclude.

Thank you for allowing the Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County to be part of this community for more than five decades. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside so many dedicated individuals in support of our older neighbors. While this chapter is coming to a close, we hope the spirit of compassion, advocacy, and service that has guided this organization will continue to inspire and strengthen our community for years to come.
